The multi-faceted world of the Naive painters is illustrated in a copious iconography, from the time of Rousseau (1844-1910) in France and Piromanaschwili (1862-1918) in Russian Georgia to the Colombian artist Fernando Botero in our own time.

Natalia Brodskaia is a curator at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg. She has written monographs on artists including Rousseau, Renoir, and Derain. She is currently concentrating on the field of early twentieth-century French art.
