此书可以做掌上观文，闲暇赏玩，然上品佳译究竟不多，二流货色居主，吕氏编选，亦自命有一二可取者亦囊入，是读者不可不辨。英译中诗，如中译英诗一般，若能以本国语显出异国风味，则是上品。Bynner虽不甚通中文，然所译九月九日忆山东兄弟等篇颇有雅致，其余诸译视之有距矣。吕氏在书末有详简不一之注可参。
